I wouldn't call most of the filmmakers on this list "amateurs", but still, they're making films on very low budgets and (unlike Jia Zhangke) they're not asking permission from the censors: Wang Bing, Huang Wenhai, Zhao Liang, Du Haibin, Li Yifan, Yan Yu, Ji Dan, Sha Qing, Li Ying, Xu Xin, Yu Guangyi and many, many others. It's all about DV these days. When it comes to mainland film, there's very little else worth watching. The age of amateur cinema WILL return? It’s already here, baby!
