Digital Underground in the People’s Republic
On a mission to acquire films and seek out the best and brightest of the Chinese independent film scene, dGenerate Films visited a post-Olympics China in September 2008. We traveled from Shanghai to Nanjing to Beijing, and kept the cameras rolling.
The result is unprecedented access into China’s other film community, where writing, filming, and distribution don’t always wait for government approval.
Join us as we visit the largest underground film festival in China, explore the spirit of independence in Beijing, tour film compounds, attend a government approved film event, and discuss the future of Chinese cinema. Along the way, you’ll meet the most important filmmakers, critics, producers, curators, and underground scenesters making films, their way, in China today.
